15 Jul 2010: Fingers Crossed!
All at Ashfield will be praying for some dry weather ahead of the very attractive Premier League clash between the "A-Plant" Tigers and Birmingham Brummies on Sunday. The recent fixture list and bad weather has meant that the Tigers have not ridden a competitive league fixture in July so far so it is essential that the lads get back into action. The rest has allowed a couple of ill riders time to recover and Jamie Courtney and Lee Dicken have both declared themselves fit for the meeting, and that will mean a full strength Glasgow side going up against one of the team expected to make the top four. The early pace setters in the league have slipped slightly although they are still serious title contenders and perhaps this weeks northern tour will determine their credentials, but Co-Promoter Stewart Dickson is only concerned with seeing his troops back into action again:

"The absence of fixtures can sometimes be a good thing or a bad thing, and while a few of the lads have been keeping busy I suspect that there may be a wee bit of rustiness when they get back amongst it again. However this is one meeting we can ill afford to make too many mistakes in and I hope that we can hit the ground running. The long gap we are having now means that we will have a very busy spell to come and I am convinced that we have a bit of climbing to do up the league table before this season is out, but one thing for certain is that the bulk of the difficult home meetings still await us and we need to lay down a marker in this one to show that we can compete with anyone.

I am pleased that we will be at full strength with Jamie and Lee both declaring themselves fit. Lee in particular has been through the wars and is probably riding against better judgement but you know how these guys are. Jamie I think needed a wee pick me up and I hope this little gap has provided it. He looked strained at Sheffield in our last match and perhaps his virus was really getting him down, now though is the chance for him to show what he is capable of."

TEAMS:
Glasgow: 1. Joe Screen 2. Lee Dicken 3. John Branney 4. Travis McGowan 5. Josh Grajczonek 6. Nick Morris 7. Jamie Courtney
Birmingham: 1. Jason Lyons 2. Aaron Summers r/r 3. Justin Sedgemen 4. Richard Sweetman 5. Steve Johnston 6. Kyle Newman 7. Richard Lawson

BEST OF THE REST:
The Tigers are set for their TV bow as the away fixture at Somerset has been chosen by SKY for live tv coverage. The fixture has been moved to Monday 9th August and should be an excellent affair against a good side whose track is one of the best in the league. It will be Glasgow's first ever league match on the TV and it is a great advert for supporters and sponsors which should attract a large audience.

The Brummies have called up Workington's Richard Lawson as a guest for the still unfit Chris Kerr. The American was hoping to be fit to return but he is still not ready and the Brummies have made an astute choice with Lawson racing to some fine scores at Glasgow so far this season.

The Tigers pairing put up an excellent showing in the Premier League Pairs at Somerset last week finishing 4th after coming second in the group and the narrowly losing out to Birmingham in the semi final - revenge will very much be on the minds on Sunday! It was a big well done to Josh Grajczonek and Travis McGowan for their great efforts.

Co-Promoter Alan Dick is still working hard at rearranging fixtures but so far the only one agreed is a trip to Newport on Friday 20th August, a meeting that will be under the floodlights at Queensway Meadows, the first one there.

The next away fixture for Glasgow will be at Workington on the 31st July, a long gap, although Josh Grajczonek is certainly busy with many bookings for Belle Vue in the Elite League. Nick Morris is also fitting in the odd fixture for Buxton in the National League.

The referee for Sunday's meeting is Craig Ackroyd.
